About the course

The Groninger Flap Course is a three-day cadaveric workshop designed for plastic surgeons (both trainees and specialists) to master flap anatomy and dissection. In this hands-on program, participants work in small teams dissecting fresh-frozen cadaver specimens under expert faculty guidance. The course covers the full range of reconstructive flaps – including head & neck, trunk, upper and lower limb reconstruction – with faculty demonstrating tips and techniques for both pedicled and microsurgical flaps. By blending focused lectures with guided dissections, attendees gain confidence in flap selection, design, and elevation for a wide variety of clinical reconstructions. 

Course highlights: 

• Three full days of hands-on dissection 

  Emphasis on the surgical anatomy of flaps used for reconstructive surgery 

• Comprehensive coverage 

  Commonly used regional and free flaps used for head & neck, trunk, upper and lower limb reconstruction are all practiced. 

• Fresh cadaver dissection 

  Training on fresh-frozen cadaver specimens that provides a realistic operative experience. 

• Mixed teaching format 

  Short but inspiring expert lectures for practical tips and tricks are immediately followed by supervised dissection sessions. 

• Small-group instruction 

  Two to four course attendants per cadaver under expert faculty guidance. 

By the end of the course, participants will fully understand the principles of flap dissection and reconstruction and will be able to design and elevate a wide variety of regional and free flaps. This immersive experience achieves the course’s goal of “mastering flap anatomy and dissection”, leaving attendees better equipped for reconstructive surgery.
